Number 1 in Google for website name

Hey, good news for me, today I see that I’m number one on Google for SEO Mommy, with my title and description- which is a great feeling. I feel recognized! I saw my page was indexed initially about 3 for 4 days after I purchased the domain name. So, it’s true that you don’t need to submit your site to Google for indexation-Google will locate it in due time. Maybe it smells the ‘fresh meat’. But I guess that during the time that I didn’t start adding content to the site, Google kinda lost sight of it, because it wasn’t showing up for a few days for the term ’seo mommy’.

So, I’m on page 1 for the search terms “seo mommy” and “seo mommy blog”. I don’t see myself in MSN or Yahoo! for these 2 terms-as yet. I must admit that last week, when I finally got to transfer all my information to my DNS, I did not check in any of the search engines for my status. That’s great, but I hardly think that anyone will search for these terms unless they become really familiar with the website.

What I really want to be ranking for are terms like ’seo for beginners’ and ’seo process for newbies’. That would make me happy.

Ugly Dreamweaver HTML codes

I was still trying to perfect the look of the site today in Dreamweaver. I decided that I hate the unnecessary codes that Dreamweaver puts in the HTML document. So, what I do is, when I’m complete with a page, I copy and paste the it in a plain text editor like BBEdit Lite and simply remove the ugly code that’s useless in the HTML code-then upload to the server. I suppose that’s not terribly necessary, but I prefer to see clean code.

Not much done today. We did have a good time in the office. The internet was down for about one hour. I listened to the SEO tutorial by Lynda.com that’s narrated by Richard John Jenkins again. Good stuff.

Domain name server setup

I finally got it up, guys!. Oh my goodness. My SEO Mommy site is up! Well at least I have a “coming soon” notice presently. But hey, I got an index page up. Guess what the first test content says? It says:

“Coming soon…
www.seomommy.com
by the way, Lex, Flip OFF!”

He chuckled on that one! Hehe! I’m so happy, now it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty. I started adding my blogs to Wordpress, chose a nice theme, did my little yickity yack and such. Then I made a kind of ‘boo boo’. I installed Wordpress in the root directory, this initially caused my blog to show up when I typed www.seomommy.com. What I actually wanted was for my blogs to show up when I typed www.seomommy.com/blog. So, being a newbie and all (I never installed Wordpress before today), I tried to remedy this setback and I took all the Wordpress files, and transferred them to a ‘blog’ folder on the FTP (Thanks a lot, Claudwin!). Boy did that mess up everything! Well it wasn’t completely messed up. This could be fixed and it was. What I did was:

  1. I downloaded all the Wordpress files from the ‘blog’ folder on the FTP to a backup folder on my desktop (call the folder what you wish to).
  2. After the download of the WP (let’s make this short for Wordpress) files to the ‘blog’ folder on my desktop was complete, I reuploaded these files to the ‘blog’ folder on the FTP.
  3. In Wordpress, under Options➝General, I changed the WordPress address and the Blog address to http://www.seomommy.com/blog. This simply lets WP know where to find my blogs.
  4. Save
  5. Voila, the Wordpress blog shows up under www.seomommy.com/blog.

Newbies, here we go!

SEO beginner making progress

I won’t lie to you, I’ve been out of it for awhile. Just last week I really started working more seriously on SEO Mommy. That’s to explain the huge gap from the last entry. I downloaded Wordpress, but Lex still has to show me how to install it on the site. I also created a ‘draft’ site with about 4 pages. I’m still working on improving the look. There’s so much to do, trust me.

I’m a true newbie-believe me. NOW I get to wet my hands and feet. I’ve been visiting Jill Whalen’s Highrankings. I’ts really great how people who post there get quick feedback from the team. Big, Big, Big up to you Jill! I also have to put the site on the FTP program(I use Fetch, by the way). I tried it at first as a root folder but that didn’t work out because I still have to fix up a few things. So, after that I placed SEO Mommy in a subfolder of one of our sites that’s already online and it worked! So, for now I can test it online in this way, but nah I don’t wanna, I want Mommy to be her in her own root folder. But, again Lex has to help out with that.
